BIOGRAPHY

Paul Anthony Soh (LTCL, LRSM) is Classical Pianist, teacher and Chorister. He specializes in Classical along with a mix of Pop and Jazz. His other current instruments also includes Cajon, Pipe Organ and Guitar, most of these were self taught.

Paul began his music education at the age of 4, learning both Piano and Electone, with the latter instrument under the Junior Music Course for a while in Yamaha.

In late 1997, he was under the mentorship of Mr Chong Poh Kong from Ipoh, all the way to 2010, scoring a distinction in his Grade 8 Exam in 2004 and obtained his double Licentiates of Trinity College London and Associated Board in 2005 and 2008, skipping ATCL / ARSM / DipABRSM levels. Mr Chong was initially under contract from Yamaha till he founded his own teaching center Classical Heritage in 2002 where Paul continued his music education. While doing so, he also resumed Electone Junior Special Advance Course under Ms Vivian Chan until 2002.

 

In 2003, he became part of a secondary school military band from Ping Yi Secondary, playing Tuba and eventually became section leader. His accolades there include Gold awards in 2 Singapore Youth Festivals in 2004 and 2006 and participated in the National Day Parade 2005 in the Pre-parade segment.

 

After secondary school, Paul advanced to Singapore Polytechnic in 2007. Under the internship programme, he was a teacher intern at Temasek Secondary in 2009. He graduated with a Diploma in Music and Audio Technology in 2010.

 

He gave his first solo performance in the Singapore Esplanade in commemoration of Chopin's 150th Anniversary. He performed at the same venue twice as part of a small band for the 'At The Concourse' Series in 2012.

 

He enrolled in LASALLE College of the Arts in 2014 studying Classical Music. 
 

2015 was a music filled year for Paul. In March 2015, he was part of a band involved aiding Chong Yun Xiang for the Grand Finals of Impresario 2015 where the latter won for the Composition Category. He was given a first taste as a chorister from 2 events in conjunction with SG50. The first was an SG50 mass with a combined Archdiocese Youth Choir, and the second was with the Vocal Associates Festival Choruswhich collaborated with the Orchestra of the Music Makers, 3 more choirs from Australia for a successful Singapore Premier of Gustav Mahler's 8th Symphony: Symphony of a Thousand. He ended the year leading a makeshift choir formed with friends across the archdiocese for an advent concert, playing Piano and arranging orchestral accompaniment for Electone.
 

As part of LASALLE's Sounds of Healing music series, Paul occasionally performed at Mount Elizabeth Hospital and was very heavily involved in the annual school Piano Voyage concert series in 2016 and 2017. For his contributions he's no stranger to the faculty. He also performed twice in Victoria Concert Hall in 2017, one as part of LASALLE's classical pianists and another as a guest pianist alumnus of Ping Yi Secondary.
 

Under the tutelage of lecturers like Mr Allan Fuller, Dr John Sharpley, and Mr Frank DeMeglio, he graduated with a Honors Degree in Classical Music in September 2017.


Outside of school, Paul was the master resident pianist of the Catholic Church of the Holy Family and one of its Choirs Genesis II which he joined since 2007 to 2017.

He currently is a full-time teacher at the Pianist Studio since October 2018 with 27 students under his wing. He has amassed a large repertoire in particular Piano Sonatas by various major composers. His playing style is known to be of high intensity, spontaneous and brimming with confidence and is someone unafraid of performing on stage.
